[alert-primary] Super Short Summary [/alert-primary]

King Edward II of England has just been crowned. He arranges for his French lover Gaveston to return to England after a long exile. The lovers are ecstatic to see each other. Gaveston is immediately bestowed with aristocratic honours and titles by Edward. He also imprisons Coventry's Bishop for opposing Gaveston's return.
Mortimer Junior, Senior, Warwick, Lancaster, and Pembroke are outraged. Gaveston doesn't have aristocratic titles because he's not noble. Barons object to Edward's spending on Gaveston. Queen Isabella is upset that Edward rejected her sexually. She dates Mortimer Jr. Only Edward's brother, Kent, supports the king.
Archbishop of Canterbury and barons arrange Gaveston's exile. Mortimer Junior decides the barons should let Gaveston return to keep the king's favour. They hope to kill Gaveston discreetly.
Gaveston is glad to return to the king, despite clashing with the nobles. Edward arranges a marriage between his niece Lady Margaret and Gaveston to boost his social status. Mortimer Junior and Lancaster accuse Edward of ignoring foreign threats, misusing funds, and losing public respect. Kent, Edward’s brother, abandons Edward after hearing their arguments.
The Barons prepare for civil war against the king under Mortimer Junior. Kent is a baron. The barons quickly capture Gaveston. At the king's request, they allow Gaveston and Edward one last meeting. Before seeing the king, Warwick kills Gaveston. Edward vows to kill his opponents to avenge Gaveston's death. The barons offer to end the conflict if Edward dismisses Spencer Junior. Edward's refusal continues the war.
Edward soon wins the battle. Warwick, Lancaster, and Mortimer Jr. are captured. Mortimer Junior and Warwick are executed. Spencer Junior arranges for the French government to deny Isabella aid as she seeks Mortimer Junior allies. Kent, Edward’s brother, helps Mortimer Junior escape prison and travels to France. Sir John of Hainault helps Isabella and Prince Edward. Sir John's European fiefdom is in France and Belgium. The group returns to England with reinforcements. This time, they win.
Edward, Spencer Junior, and Baldock flee to Ireland after losing the battle. English aristocrats working for Mortimer Junior, who controls the monarchy through Isabella, quickly find the fugitives. Baldock and Spencer Junior are executed, and Edward is imprisoned in Berkeley Castle, England. Winchester's bishop and Leicester's earl ask Edward to resign. Edward is initially outraged. Earl of Leicester tells him his son, Prince Edward, will lose his monarchy if he resigns. Edward concedes. Mortimer Junior tortures and kills Edward. He'll protect Prince Edward. Mortimer Junior will rule since the prince is too young.
Kent is appalled by Mortimer Junior and Isabella. He regrets betraying Edward. Kent helps Edward flee. Prince Edward protests, but Mortimer Junior executes Kent. Prince Edward becomes king, ending his father's reign.
Mortimer Junior's assassin Lightborne kills Edward after days of torture. Mortimer Junior believes he won't be convicted of murder. Isabella is right that the truth will emerge. King Edward III beheads Mortimer Junior for the murder. He imprisons Isabella for being an accomplice, then attends his father's funeral.
