Puritans were a  group of English Protestants who, during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, strove to cleanse the Church of England of what they perceived to be the final remnants of Roman Catholicism. They were known as the  Puritans. In their day-to-day lives, they adhered to a strict interpretation of the Bible and worshipped in a straightforward manner. There is no doubt that the Puritans had a significant impact on the history of England as well as the establishment of the New England Colonies in the United States in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. They followed a tight interpretation of the Bible in their daily lives and practiced a simple style of worship.
The Puritans greatly influenced the history of England and the founding of the New England Colonies in America. The Puritans were deeply religious people. In order to break free from the centralised authority of the  Catholic Church, protestants founded a number of different sectors and  associations. There were several national churches established.
The Church of England, along with a great number of other denominations, did not pursue the implementation of radical doctrinal developments. John Calvin, who  lived from 1509 to 1564, 1564,was  the person who initiated a  number of institutional changes. His followers were known as Calvinists. He, along with his followers, made efforts to eliminate the Catholic traditions that were still in existence. All of them were obstinate rebels who refused to submit to authority. The authorities of the Anglican church held a deep-seated hatred for Calvinists and desired to preserve the status quo.
The Puritans were a group of devoted Christians who were willing to leave their homeland of England and come to the American colonies in order to live out their religious convictions and to avoid being persecuted for their religious beliefs in  England. Some Puritans relocated to the  states of Massachusetts and Connecticut between the  years 1630 and 1640. In addition to these two colonies, the Puritan immigrants from England established five other colonies: colonies; Plymouth, Maryland, Rhode Island, New Heaven, and Pennsylvania. These colonies were known as the  "other five colonies." The primary objective of the Protestant emigrants was to establish a way of life and a church administration in the colonies that were congruent with the principles that they had developed over the course of their lives.
Writings of Puritans
The naturalness, lucidity, clarity of thought, and direction of expression that may be  found in the works of the Puritans are noteworthy. It is clear that Jonathan Edwards, along with a great number of other theologians and  preachers, possessed these characteristics in his writings and lectures. In the beginning, they were the ones who developed American prose, originally created by them. The Puritan influence: Despite the fact that the Puritan influence was diminished by the end of the colonial period, it did not completely disappear.
This is what the Puritans has left behind for American literature:
"the impression of his strong moral sense, of his  strong  moral  sense, of  his  emphasis on  the drama of the  inner life, and of  his conviction that spiritual beauties are infinitely the greatest."
Spread of Puritanism in America
A group of Puritans embarked on the Mayflower in the year 1620 with the intention of establishing Plymouth Colony in the  state of  Massachusetts. On the basis of their theological convictions, they established a theocratic society and campaigned for the freedom of religion. Under the leadership of John Winthrop, the  Puritans established the Massachusetts  Bay Colony in 1629. Between the years 1620 and 1640, the Massachusetts Bay Colony was visited by  hundreds of Puritans who had settled there. The realisation of their dream was to construct a religiously significant city on top of a hill that would serve as a model for other communities. Indelibly, the Puritans have left their mark on the culture and civilization of the  United States of America, which would serve as an example for others. The Puritans have forever influenced America's culture and civilization.
