London streets at 2 am : A City Night-Piece is a short piece that describes a personal experience Goldsmith had at night. At 2:00 a.m., he goes for a walk by himself and carefully watches the people and events happening on the streets of London.  At 2 a.m. in London.  When the goldsmith comes out at 2:00 a.m., he sees that the light in the holder is slowly moving up and down. The guard is almost ready to go to sleep.  People who put in a lot of work are currently sleeping.People who feel shame and sadness, people who drink too much, thieves, and people who kill themselves are the ones who are conscious and aware.  

Philosophical Reflections by Goldsmith  Goldsmith stops looking at things and decides to take a walk through the streets.Not long ago, the streets were packed with people who were filled with joy.  

 Around 2:00 a.m., there are no people around and no sense of self-worth. The dog barking and the clock striking are sounds that can be heard.  All people are deaf.  It looks like an insulting copy of human pride.  Goldsmith dreams of a time when another visitor, like himself, will be able to visit the empty city and look around. The person looking would see bushes and plants instead of holy buildings in the area.  In churches and theaters, reptiles will be seen. Every place would have given up and been empty.  People who were wealthy and powerful would die.  In the end, all people and their sense of self-importance will be made useless.  

People at 2am :  In that particular moment in time, Goldsmith notices how few people are on the street.  People who wear masks during the day are these people.  Under normal circumstances, these people will hide themselves.  These people live on the streets and in front of the homes of the rich. They are usually strangers, nomads, or Orphans.

Goldsmith, sickened by these people and feels sorry for them.  There are people who do not have enough clothes and more who are sick.  Some women are forced to become prostitutes by rich men.  These women used to be beautiful.  Rich bad guys took advantage of them.  At this very moment, these women are in pain and shaking in the snow.  

The bad people who destroyed their lives look happy and at ease.  As an end,  The goldsmith finds it hard to see how much pain these people are in.  The world will only make him sad.  People are having a hard time because of the small habits of wealthy people.  People with a lot of power ruin their own lives.  Poor people are the only ones who can show their pain through tears, whether it is physical or mental.  

Laws could become an enemy for people who are already struggling financially.  Goldsmith feels sorry for those people because their actions bother him.  His failure to help them makes his own pain worse, on top of the people in question's.
