           Birches - Robert Frost

Short summary: The speaker imagines that a little boy snatched the slender branches at the top of the slanted birch trees. The speaker claims that most people have seen birch trees covered in ice on clear mornings after a heavy winter rain. When two birch trees scrape against each other in the wind, the ice around their branches shines as it breaks off. When the sun heats ice-covered trees, small layers of ice gently break through the snowy outer layer. They do not break when hit with this much force, but they do not return to their previous height after being bent for a long time.

Thus, these trees will still be visible years from now, with their leaves dropping downward like a girl's hair when she flicks it forward while on all fours and lets it dry in the sun. So far, the speaker has discussed ice storm effects. Now they return to the song's theme.

The speaker imagine that a boy swung from birch trees, bending them, to feed his family's cows. The speaker believes the boy lived in the woods and had to find his own entertainment all year because he could not play baseball in town. The child swung hard from the highest branches of every birch tree on his dad's land, making them bend and flexible. These actions were so frequent and large that he targeted all the local birch trees.

The child learned how to swing from birch trees and to wait for the trunk to become fully flexible before jumping to avoid cracking and falling. The boy climbed up to the higher branches, like filling a cup to the top, just above. After climbing the tree, he gently jumped out and fell to the earth.

The boy may have swung from birch trees. He is considering hanging from birch trees again. When the speaker is preoccupied with daily irritations, this illusion appears. Without a road, a dense forest coveres with trees, spider webs, and little sticks that poke your eye.

The speaker wants to leave Earth for a short period and start afresh, expressing how much he would appreciate it. A misinterpretation of this request by an all-knowing being to take the speaker out of this world forever and never, return is not intended.

According to the speaker, Earth has the best quality of life. Only on Earth can real sensations like love be felt. The speaker intends to die by climbing a birch tree via its snow-covered trunk and dark branches until it can no longer support their weight and gently bows down, bringing them down. The speaker says that they want to feel what it is like to leave Earth and then come back. You can get from one place to another by swinging from birch trees, which is not the worst thing that could happen
