1.Opening a banking account
Customer.:
Good morning! I want to open a new bank account.
Bank Rep.:
Good morning! I would be pleased to help you with that. Are you looking to open
a checking or savings account?
Customer
: I consider, opening a savings
account.
Bank Rep.:
Excellent choice! Savings accounts are ideal for storing aside money for future
needs. To get started, I will need some basic information from you, including
your name, address, and an acceptable form of identification. Have you got
these documents with you?
Customer :
Yes, I have all of the documentation right here.
Bank Rep.:
Excellent. Let us begin the procedure. Once we have completed the application
form, we will go over the details of our savings account, such as interest
rates and any fees. If you have any questions along the route, please ask.
2.Visiting a Dentist
Dentist: Good morning! How can I help you
today?
Patient : Hello, doctor. I have been
experiencing some discomfort in my back teeth, particularly while drinking
something cold.
Dentist: I see. How long has it been going
on?
Patient: It started a few weeks ago, but it
has been getting worse.
Dentist:Alright. Let us have a look. Please
lie back and open wide for me
After the examination*
Dentist:It appears that you have enamel
wear, which is creating the sensitivity. Have you been brushing your teeth
really hard?
Patient:I suppose I might have. I had no
idea it could be a problem.
Dentist: It is a prevalent issue. I propose
using a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste formulated for sensitive teeth.
Also, brush gently.
Patient: Will that solve the problem?
Dentist: It should improve sensitivity, but
we will also use a fluoride treatment today to reinforce the enamel. I would
like to make a follow-up consultation to evaluate if there has been any
improvement.
Patient: Thank you, Doctor. I will make
sure to take your suggestions.
Dentist: You are welcome! Remember that
taking care of your teeth is really important. See you at the next appointment.
3.Enquiring
for a call- taxi
Customer: Good evening,Jenofer,I have
reserved a taxi for my colleague Jessie and myself . Is this the correct car?
Driver:Good evening! You are Ms.Jenofer ? I
am David, your driver. Where do you want to go?
Customer:Hi David, yes, that's me. I need
to get to the airport.
Driver: Sure stuff. We should arrive in
around 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
Customer: My flight is in two hours.
Driver:All good, we will make sure you
arrive in plenty of time. Is this your first time visiting, our city?
Customer: It is, indeed. I came
here, business visit, but I wish, I had more time to explore.
Driver: So, if you ever return, I can take
you around some of the best places.
Customer: That sounds excellent; I will
keep it in mind. Thanks, David
Driver: My pleasure. Sit back and relax, Ms.Jenofer. We will arrive at the airport shortly.
4.Asking for Directions
Tourist: Excuse me, officer; I fear I am
lost. Could you please help me locate my hotel?
Officer:Certainly! What is the name of your
hotel?
Tourist: This is GrammarBank Hotel.
Officer: Hmm, I think I know where it is.
Is it far?
Tourist: Not quite. Do you own a car and do
you drive?
Officer:I do not have an automobile. Okay,
it is only a "ten-minute"walk. If you prefer, I can call you a
taxi.
Tourist: No, thanks. I am willing to walk.
Officer:I will give you directions.
Continue on this street until you reach the bank. Do you spot the tall
building?
Tourist: Yes.
Officer:So, at the traffic lights, turn
left on "Great Sheva Avenue"
Tourist: OK, I will turn left.
Officer: Correct. Then continue straight
ahead, taking the second right, which should bring you to the GrammarBank
Hotel.
Tourist:Okay, I will take the second right.
Officer:No, that is the second right.
Tourist:Oh, absolutely. The second
right.
Officer: Turn left at the traffic lights
near the bank, then take the second right. **Tourist:** Thanks for your
help.
Officer: No problem, have a great day! 😊
5.Planning for a department function
Class monitor: All well, good morning! This
year's department function is being planned by us, as you all know. Some
concepts need to be generated. Is everyone in agreement here?
Student1 : Hey there! Choosing a theme
should be our first step, in my opinion. Why not have a cultural festival?
Class Monitor: What a brilliant plan! Our
varied customs may be on display at a cultural festival. Am I missing anything?
Student 1: What about the budget,
Student 2 (S2) : Keeping costs down is of the utmost
importance.
CM:
Sure thing! I will bring up the budget with the professors and get right back
to you. At the same time, how about we consider what kinds of events we may
incorporate?
Student 3: Would you be up for a talent
show? It would be exciting to uncover the latent abilities within our division!
CM: What a wonderful idea for a talent
show! Poems, dances, and songs can all have their own sections. We should
organize a group to deal with registrations.
Student 1: Once we settle on the details, I
can create the invites and posters.
CM: That would be really helpful, so thank
you. In addition, we are in need of someone to help set up the venue and
decorate.
Student 2: I would be happy to help with
the decorating! Would the photography club be interested in covering the event?
CM: Impressive reasoning! I will contact
them. Let us think about the dining plans as well. Who wants to be on the food
committee?
Student 3: Sure, I would be happy to lend a
hand. A variety of munchies, including perhaps a dish that represents our
department, would be great.
Class Monitor :Just right! Next week, we
can review the progress we have made on our tasks. To make this event a
success, remember that teamwork is vital. Many thanks to all!
6.Discussing offers in advertisements
Jones : Salutations Jordan How many
advertisements these days feature special offers?
Joyal: It is like every single commercial
is yelling sales and discounts at us.
Jones: True, yet do not you suppose they
function? In fact, a good "buy one get one free" deal tempts me.
Joyal: They draw notice for sure, but
occasionally I worry if they are too good to be true.
Jones : That raises valid concerns. It is,
nevertheless, a fast approach to increase sales from a commercial standpoint.
Joyal: Increase sales obviously. What,
though, is the product's worth? Discounts all the time could make consumers
doubt its quality.
Jones: Not that I had considered. All the
same, time is more important to me. When something is really needed, I love to
locate a fantastic offer.
Joyal : What counts is timing. Exclusion as
well! Offers available to members alone, for example, give me the impression
that I belong to a unique club.
Jones: Indeed, and that is astute
advertising. Loyalty is increased by it. But do all of the offerings available
ever overwhelm you?
Joyal: Without a question. It resembles
overflow of information. I simply ignore them sometimes.
Jones:Adverts must, I suppose, make their
offer stand out without coming across as frantic or overbearing.
Joyal: Just so. There is a thin line
between drawing in and irritating possible clients.
Jones: Talking about deals, I received a
code for that new pizza joint. Want to give it a shot?
Joyal: I am unable to turn down such offer! Take off.
7.Buying a Car
Father : So, you are serious about
acquiring a car, right?
Son (S): Yes, Dad. I have been saving from
my part-time work, and I believe it is time.
F: I am proud of you for saving. Have you
thought about the type of car you want?
S: I do! I am looking for something
dependable, not too fancy, and with high fuel efficiency.
F: A wise choice. What does your budget
look like?
S: I have roughly ₹1 lakh saved, but I was
hoping you could help with a little more.
F: That is a reasonable amount. I can equal
your funds, but it comes with responsibilities. You will take care of the
insurance and upkeep.
S: Absolutely, I understand. I have previously done some research on insurance costs.
8.Applying for a job
Rohan: Hey, Aryan, how is the job search
going?
Aryan: It is going fine. I applied to a
couple places, however I am a little anxious about the interviews.
Rohan: That is normal. Remember, the key is
to be confident and prepared. Have you looked into the companies you apply to?
Aryan: I have, however I am not sure if it
is sufficient. What more could I do?
Rohan: Well, you should thoroughly
comprehend the work role and consider how your skills align with their
criteria. Additionally, practice common interview questions.
Aryan: I get it. I am also concerned about
my resume. Do you think you could look into it?
Rohan: Of course! Let us sit down and
ensure that your abilities and experiences are adequately highlighted.
Aryan: Thank you, Rohan. I greatly
appreciate your assistance.
Rohan: Not an issue. Do not forget to send
a thank-you email following your interviews. It gives a favorable impression.
Aryan: That will do. I am grateful I have
you to help me get through this.
Rohan: I am always happy to help. You are
going to do amazing. Just believe in yourself!
9.Meeting teachers and parents
Example 1: Negative
Teacher: Hi, Mrs. Smith. How are you?
Parent: Thanks for the day, Mrs. Johnson.
Good morning, thank you. How are you?
Teacher: I wanted to set up a time to talk
with you about Johnny, your child, and his progress in my class. In particular,
Johnny has been having trouble with math. He is having trouble understanding
some ideas and is behind on his work, which I have noticed.
Parent: Okay, I get it. That worries me. I
did not think Johnny had this much trouble with math, but he has in the past.
Teacher: Yes, we should deal with this
problem right away. I want to set up some extra help meetings for Johnny and
make a plan with you to help him get better.
Parent: Wow, that sounds great. Anything
that will help Johnny succeed is fine with me.
Teacher: Very good. Also, we can set up a
meeting to talk about the plan in more detail. I will set up the extra help
classes. For now, please let me know if you need anything or have any
questions.
Parent: Dear Mrs. Johnson, thank you. I am
glad you care about Johnny and want to help him. I am excited about our
meeting.
Teacher: Of course, Mrs. Smith. I want Johnny to do well, and I will do everything I can to help him.
Example 2: Positive
Teacher: Thanks for coming, Mr.Roshan. How
are you today?
Parent: Hi, Mrs. Williams. Good morning,
thank you. How are you?
Teacher: I would like to set up a time to
talk with you about your daughter Maya's progress in my class. Things are going
great for Linda. She always gets good grades and takes an active role in class
talks. I want to talk to you about how she is doing and find out what we can do
to help her learn even more.
Parent: Good to hear that. Linda has always
worked hard in school, and it is great to see that her hard work is paying off.
What do you think we should do to help her learn even more?
Teacher: I think Linda should keep taking
part in class discussions and do some extra tasks to improve her skills. These
will push her and help her learn new things. Also, think about some things she
can do outside of school that are related to her interests. This will help her
improve her skills even more.
Parent: It seems like a good idea. For Linda, I will definitely look into some enrichment programs and activities outside of school. Could you suggest anything else we could do to help her learn?
10.Acquainting with a fellow traveller in a
train.
Arun: (noticing the person next to him
reading a book) That's an intriguing book cover. What are you reading, what's
that about ?
Sam: Oh, this? It is a mystery novel titled
'The Last Stop'. It is quite gripping.
Arun: I adore a good mystery. Does it
happen on a train, by any chance?
Sam: (chuckles) Actually, yes. It tells the
story of a detective who solves a case while traveling across continents.
Arun: How appropriate for our setting! I am
Arun, by the way.
Sam: I am Sam. Nice to meet you. Do you
travel for job or pleasure?
Arun: A little of both. I am going to a
conference, but I also want to visit the sites. And you?
Sam: I am visiting family. It has been a
while since I have seen them.
Arun: That is nice. It is critical to
maintain communication with family.
Sam: Absolutely. So, what do you do?
Arun: I am a software engineer. I design
mobile applications.
Sam: Interesting! I am a teacher. I teach history
in a high school.
Arun: History has always been my favorite
subject. It is like its own form of time travel.
Sam: Well said. I usually remind my
students that history allows us to understand the present and shape the future.
Arun: I could not agree more. Regarding the
future, do you believe our investigator will solve the case in your book?
Sam: I believe they will, but the voyage
itself is the finest part.
Arun: Is not it just like life? The journey
is as important as the destination.
Sam: Exactly. It was lovely talking with
you, Arun.
Arun: Likewise, Sam. Enjoy the remainder of
your book and your trip.
Sam: Thank you, and best of luck with your
conference.
