 Introduction
Ayn Rand's essay "Does not Life Require Compromise?" was included in the anthology The Virtue of Selfishness: A New Concept of Egoism, which was released in 1964. This essay is the seventh part in a series consisting of nineteen installments. This essay explores the fundamental reasons behind the tension between the concept of compromise and both logical and ethical reasoning.
Rand's concept of "Compromise" refers to the process of reaching a mutually agreeable solution by making concessions or finding a halfway point. According to Rand, compromise is the act of resolving conflicting demands by making reciprocal concessions.
A 'compromise' is a situation where two individuals, who have different viewpoints, beliefs, or approaches based on their own logical evaluations, modify their principles to reach a mutually agreed-upon settlement. However, this statement is generally false. People with different views find it hard to come to a complete agreement that includes all of their ideas. There'll always be one person who gives up and gives up on their beliefs. he uses government policy as an example to make her point clearer.
Rand says that freedom and government rules are inherently incompatible, so there is no way to find a middle ground.
Making concessions is not part of compromise
Making concessions is an important part of negotiating in order to reach an agreement in a business deal. There should be a clear understanding and agreement between both sides about the terms of the deal. There is no situation in which one person has to suffer because of a deal. Embracing a state of simplicity is what he truly thinks will bring him/ her  happiness in life.
Rand portrays the situation, comparing to a burglary. He says that a thief and a person who has been stolen from can never come to an agreement that works for both of them. He stresses how important it is to settle disagreements in a fair and unbiased way, making sure that no one loses or gains a lot of money or power in a way that hurts others more than they help themselves.
The link between freedom and government
In his essay, Rand looks at the connection between freedom and government rules, such as trade and tax laws. It is the current domestic strategy of the United States that she talks about. He says that when people today talk about balance, they often see it as giving up on their own values. There are lots of people who think that all goals are morally acceptable and are ready to give in to anyone or anything.
Conclusion
Rand says that the way people connect with the government cannot be called a compromise because people can not negotiate or ask for a better deal.
