Comedy

Comedy :

Comedy is a broad genre of film, television, and literature in which the goal is to make an audience laugh. It exists in every culture on earth (though the specifics of comedy can be very different from one culture to another), and has always been an extremely popular genre of storytelling.

Types of Comedy :

⦿ Situational Comedy
⦿ Romantic Comedy
⦿ Physical Comedy (Slapstick)
⦿ Dark Comedy
⦿ Farce

Farce: Farce is characterized by exaggerated scenarios, physical humor, and improbable events. It often includes mistaken identities, misunderstandings, and rapid action.

Romantic Comedy: This genre showcases the humorous aspects of romantic relationships. It typically features a lighthearted narrative about love and dating, often culminating in a happy ending.

Satirical Comedy: Satirical comedy uses humor to expose the flaws and mistakes of individuals, organizations, or society. Its purpose is to encourage reflection and inspire change through laughter.

Dark Comedy: Also referred to as black comedy, this style finds humor in serious or taboo subjects. It often tests the audience's comfort levels and creates a distinct form of laughter.

Example:Oscar Wilde's The Importance being  Earnest is one of the most successful plays ever written in the English language. The reason for its popularity is that it combines several different forms of comedy, and was highly influential in the rise of early film. The Importance of Being Earnest is kind of a ―romantic sitcom farce,‖ combining aspects of all three genres into one.
